Introduction to Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship for Biotherapeutic Scientists

Introduction

Building upon the success of last year’s Bench to Bedside for Biotherapeutics (B3) workshop, the Clinical Translation Education Group (CTEG) is hosting a new full-day workshop in fall 2018. This event will introduce trainees / highly-qualified personnel to intellectual property (IP) and entrepreneurship in the commercialization of biotherapeutic technologies.

Workshop Learning Objectives
The Introduction to Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship for Biotherapeutic Scientists workshop will offer engaging sessions, informative talks and panel discussions. Presentations and activities will introduce concepts related to understanding the integral concepts of IP, including how to conduct a patent search, and issues related to starting your own company, such as financing the development of a discovery, making a business plan, and tips, tricks and lessons learned from experts in the biotechnology sector.

Topics will include:

  • IP 101
  • Conducting patent searches
  • Working with your university’s Technology Transfer Office
  • Keynote on intellectual property
  • How do I finance the development of my discovery?
  • Introduction to business plans and term sheets

The Clinical Translation Education Group (CTEG)
CTEG is a collaboration, formed in 2016, between seven organizations involved in, or supporting, experimental clinical cellular therapy. It was established to address the absence of a high-quality, structured educational training program in the clinical translation of biotherapeutics. The long-term vision of CTEG is to develop a training strategy in clinical translation to cover aspects of research translation from its early discovery to the clinical trial and commercialization stage.
