HearU Reporting Tool

BioCanRx has partnered with HearU to offer a safe space for all employees, students, and/or researchers to anonymously report instances of harassment, discrimination, bullying, microaggression, or any other form of unfair treatment that may have been experienced or witnessed in BioCanRx funded labs and research groups.

What is HearU?

HearU is a reporting tool for any unfair treatment occurring within BioCanRx funded labs or research groups. It is a platform that provides you with a way to report instances of harassment, discrimination, bullying, or microaggression, whether you’ve experienced it in the past or continue to experience it today. HearU is there to answer your questions, provide advice and guidance, and suggest resources for next steps – all while identifying systemic trends throughout the BioCanRx network over time.

How does HearU work?

Founded on the premise that you may not always feel comfortable raising an issue with your principal investigator or Human Resources department at your institution, HearU allows you to report any incident of unfair treatment within your lab or research group anonymously. All you have to do is log on to the platform, fill out the short anonymous submission form, and click submit! From there, you may browse a list of curated helpful resources, or you can simply log off.

To use HearU and to submit a report, please use the following steps:

It’s important to note that when you report an incident anonymously, HearU does not collect any information that would allow anyone to identify or contact you. In addition, reporting anonymously does not trigger an investigation or the start of a formal complaint process. Rather, it allows us to gather data on incidents occurring within the BioCanRx network over a certain period of time to identify systemic trends within our organization.

If you want to take your report one step further, you may choose to speak to one of our counsellors for guidance and advice on how to cope or what you can do next. Your confidentiality remains a priority with this option as well.

What’s in it for…

You

Simply put, HearU gives you a voice, it listens, and it provides support. HearU allows you to share your experiences of unfair treatment, if any, without the fear of a negative consequence, all while protecting your identity. Confidentiality and privacy are of utmost importance for us – these are fundamental pillars upon which the tool rests.

BioCanRx

HearU allows us to gather aggregated data about any incidents of unfair treatment occurring within the BioCanRx network. It offers a platform for you to anonymously share any information about harassment, discrimination, bullying, microaggressions, and more. With this information, HearU identifies systemic trends to create strategies and to ultimately help create a more inclusive environment throughout the BioCanRx network.

FAQs

Is HearU really anonymous?
Yes. HearU is managed and controlled by a third-party vendor who monitors, gathers, and analyzes the aggregated data specific to BioCanRx. Your full report is only accessible by this third-party vendor, and BioCanRx only sees the data in aggregate form. Only if you choose to speak to one of HearU’s counsellors will the tool require an email or phone number (which will still not be shared with BioCanRx).

Can I use HearU even if I’m not sure what I experienced or witnessed was really “unfair treatment”?
Yes. If whatever you experienced or witnessed felt inappropriate or made you even the slightest bit uncomfortable, you can use HearU. No matter how big or small you think an issue might be, we want to hear about it.

What does HearU do with my information?
Once a threshold of 5 reports have been submitted, HearU begins its analysis. It starts by looking at all the specific data reported to identify systemic trends specific to BioCanRx. While the third-party vendor can see specific data, this is inaccessible to BioCanRx; BioCanRx can only see data in the aggregate form. Using this information, HearU can uncover gaps in an organizations culture and suggest strategies for closing those gaps, ultimately helping BioCanRx work toward creating a more inclusive environment for everyone.
