Making Breakthroughs, Building Partnerships and Advancing Next-Generation Treatments
This year’s successful Summit for Cancer Immunotherapy (Summit4CI) saw more than 320 leading scientists, clinicians, trainees, not-for profit stakeholders, patients, government officials and industry representatives come together to share knowledge, learn and network.
The Summit took place in Gatineau, Quebec, in late June and explored the latest in cancer immunotherapy through a good blend of Canadian and international perspectives and covered a wide range of topics from The Microbiome and Biomarkers & Immune Profiling to Oncolytic Viruses & Viral Vaccines and Adoptive Cell Therapy.
Robert Andtbacka (Huntsman Cancer Institute), Stanley Riddell (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center), Dmitriy Zamarin (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center) and Jeffrey Hoch (UC Davis) all delivered excellent keynote presentations.
While it’s difficult to list all of the conference highlights, a few examples include Denis Claude Roy’s (Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont) made-in-Canada approach to tumour target identification and Rebecca Auer’s (The Ottawa Hospital) look at the link between surgical stress, immune dysfunction and metastases. It was clear that there is an incredible richness and depth to immuno-oncology research in Canada and it is making its mark on the world stage.
We asked BioCanRx’s Scientific Director, John Bell, and President & CEO, Stéphanie Michaud what is significant about Summit 4CI and what makes it stand out from other conferences:
In addition to the many great plenaries and panels, enthusiastic highly qualified personnel participated in a special training day and a new Learning Institute was piloted throughout the conference. Members of the public were invited to a forum called Immunotherapy: A cancer treatment game-changer? Click here to watch the public forum.
Of course, this conference wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the Scientific Organizing Committee, HQP Working Group, all of the organizers, speakers and support from our many generous sponsors.
We’d like to thank everyone who participated and look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Summit4CI in Banff!
