Internship Details
The BioCanRx Indigenous Student Summer Internship Program provides Indigenous undergraduate students with meaningful opportunities to gain experience in cancer research or policy projects across Canada.
Project eligibility extends beyond BioCanRx’s mandate of cancer immunotherapy and biotherapeutics to include any cancer-related research or policy-related work, including that with an Indigenous-oriented framework, such as Indigenous traditional knowledge.

About the Program
- Supports Indigenous participation in cancer research, policy, and careers
- Provides networking, mentorship, and hands-on experience
- Goes beyond cancer immunotherapy/biotherapeutics to include: Cancer-related policy, Indigenous-oriented frameworks, Indigenous traditional knowledge
Supported by:
- Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (up to 3 Ontario-based students)
- Canadian Cancer Society (up to 3 students across Canada)
Open Research & Policy Stream
Students may be placed with professors at Canadian universities in:
- Clinical, social & economic impact research – tackling health-system, social, or ethical barriers.
- Indigenous Knowledge – incorporating traditional knowledge into cancer research and care strategies.
- Knowledge Translation – developing and implementing tools to improve cancer-related knowledge.
- Laboratory-based research – hands-on cancer research in lab settings.

Important for Students
At the time of application, students must already:
- Students must secure a supervisor before applying.
- Supervisors can be any investigator in cancer research or policy at a Canadian institution — not limited to BioCanRx investigators.
- Indigenous applicants will also be considered for the general Summer Student Program (no need to apply twice).
