Providing Patient Perspective: The Cancer Stakeholder Alliance and Working Group

What is the Cancer Stakeholder Alliance?

The BioCanRx Cancer Stakeholder Alliance (CSA) is an open consortium of charities and non-government organizations from across Canada. The organizations represent a variety of cancer indications and are focused on cancer research, advocacy, and support for patients and their families.

With the experience and perspective of cancer patients, their families and the concerned public at the heart of all discussions, members of the CSA have been meeting in person since 2014 to work with BioCanRx on making the network’s information, research and activities accessible and relevant for patients.

This year, members will be meeting on June 27 in Gatineau, Quebec, at the 2017 Summit for Cancer Immunotherapy (Summit4CI) to talk about the progress to-date and direction of the BioCanRx-CSA Joint Action Plan and the CSA Working Group, both of which were launched in January.

What is the Cancer Stakeholder Alliance Working Group?

The CSA Working Group is composed of 13 members – nine members of the CSA and four members from BioCanRx. The group is tasked with making joint CSA and BioCanRx priorities a reality. In other words, they are working on the Joint Action Plan.

Several projects are underway including: working together to launch an interactive map of Canada showing the locations of BioCanRx’s clinical trials with lay language descriptions; developing and piloting a Learning Institute for patient leaders attending the 2017 Summit4CI, and organizing a Summit panel of experts on patient engagement in research.

Membership is on an annual basis, and the members of this year’s inaugural working group include:

  • Patrick Sullivan (Chair), Team Finn Foundation & Ac2orn
